Kaffa Wild Coffee from Original Food – Organic and fair trade coffee

The origin of Arabica coffee can be found in the tropical mountain forests of Kaffa province in southwestern Ethiopia. Wild coffee trees still grow there today in countless varieties. But this natural genetic treasure is in danger due to the increasing deforestation.

Original Food‘s wild coffee project is putting a stop to this. Through the harvesting and sale of wild coffee, farming families earn an income from the reasonable exploitation of the forest. As a result, the tropical forest that provides wild coffee is preserved and the living conditions of the local population are improving in a sustainable way. Today, more than 8,000 farming families live off wild coffee and more than 100,000 people in Kaffa benefit directly or indirectly from this project.

Kaffa farmers carefully pick ripe coffee cherries by hand and dry them naturally in the sun. Thanks to this drying method, the coffee retains its characteristic taste and the limited water resources are preserved. The green coffee is then transported via Hamburg to Kriens in the canton of Lucerne in Original Food‘s “KaffaWerkstatt” roasting plant. There, wild beans are slowly roasted in small quantities according to traditional artisanal methods. The result is a coffee that is easily tolerated with a particularly intense aroma.

Kaffa Wild Coffee is available in organic stores, health food stores, delicatessens or online on their website.

Kaffa Wild Coffee beans are available in bulk directly at the “KaffaWerkstatt” roasting plant for private customers and in returnable containers at bulk stores.
