Since the beginning of 2017, Vanessa has been working to avoid waste. This is not always possible. But compared to the past, it’s very little. “Before we started Zero Waste, we used to fill two 35-litre bags a week.”
The family did not reduce waste overnight. It took about nine months to convert the household. “For some products, I’m still looking for alternatives.” Besides, Vanessa cooks differently now. “Before, I had a fixed menu in my head, now I’m looking at what I can do with the provisions.” This was for her a liberation.
With the Zero Waste Lifestyle Christine has found solutions for herself and her family that are better from an environmental and health point of view, while at the same time supporting local shops and companies rather than multinational corporations. Since the beginning of 2017 she has been trying to produce little or no waste in her everyday life and has started looking for local products that can be bought without packaging or making things herself. She works as a Coach to help people integrate into Careers/Professional life, has a master in sociology and lives with her family in Bern.
During her studies already, she was committed to the environment and used to organize climate strikes. She often spends her holidays helping animal welfare projects and cleaning beaches. She is part of Greenpeace’s “Déconsommateurs”- team and helps developping ideas to reduce waste. Supporting the Zero Waste movement seemed like an obvious choice and so she joined the group ZeroWaste Switzerland in Basel immediately after its creation. She was one of the first buyers in the region’s new bulk stores.
Passionate about travel, Lucie realized at a very young age the social and environmental impact of globalization and our way of life. Converted into a consultant in sustainable business and with 6 years of experience in project management, Lucie is active with several companies focused on responsible or fair trade.
A recent experience in Cambodia made her realize that other ways of consuming were possible.
