History and mission

ZeroWaste Switzerland is a non-profit, publicly recognised association that has been active since 2018. It inspires and supports the Swiss population and stakeholders to reduce waste at source.

Zero Waste Switzerland’s vision is that the best waste is no waste. What are the benefits? A better quality of life, a positive impact on the planet, and better health.

Our vision

A Switzerland without waste or wastefulness!

Our mission

To encourage citizens, institutions and economic actors to choose zero waste consumption and production methods in order to achieve a circular economy.

Our values

  • Environmental protection
  • Respect
  • Dialogue
  • Positive communication
  • Collaborative actions

ZeroWaste Switzerland was born from a meeting between Natalie and Julie, who were both passionate about zero waste:

« For several years, we had been questioning our society’s consumption habits and looking for a way to raise awareness among the Swiss population as a whole about the issue of waste. Seeing our bins overflowing and the emergence of the Zero Waste movement around the world, we decided to join forces and create the ZeroWaste Switzerland association in 2015. »

A pioneer in the fight against single-use packaging, the association is the Swiss benchmark in the field of Zero Waste. For 10 years, it has been offering various activities, such as workshops, conferences, diagnostics and coaching programmes, to encourage more sustainable consumption and production practices. With more than 2,000 events organised since its creation, our actions have reached more than 10,000 people throughout Switzerland.

It also works with its partners at the national level to bring about large-scale changes in practices and framework conditions.

ZeroWaste Switzerland now has nearly 500 members throughout Switzerland. The team and volunteers work hand in hand with schools, municipalities, businesses and citizen groups to support the implementation of more sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives.

Our fight is more important than ever. We continue to advocate joyful sobriety, encouraging people to consume less and better on a daily basis. We focus on three strategic areas:

  • Raising awareness and involving the population
  • Institutionalising and amplifying the movement
  • Growing visibility and involving decision-makers
