During her studies already, she was committed to the environment and used to organize climate strikes. She often spends her holidays helping animal welfare projects and cleaning beaches. She is part of Greenpeace’s “Déconsommateurs”- team and helps developping ideas to reduce waste. Supporting the Zero Waste movement seemed like an obvious choice and so she joined the group ZeroWaste Switzerland in Basel immediately after its creation. She was one of the first buyers in the region’s new bulk stores.
A respectful approach to the environment has always been important to the long-time girl scout. In 2014 she came across the zero-waste lifestyle in an article and became curious. The conclusion: ZeroWaste is inspiring, instructive and a great journey into a healthier and more sustainable everyday life.
In discovering the ZeroWaste movement, she found a group of dedicated people who help and support each other on their path to a more sustainable lifestyle. On her own journey way towards “Zero Waste” she has discovered many new products, adopted new habits and made contacts that have enriched her life, and it gives her great pleasure to inspire and support others to do the same. Given her degree in business, she would like to instil a longer term awareness in companies and inspire them to better conserve resource in their everyday processes.
Having always been aware of the downside of consumerism and modern living, Samina’s zero waste journey kick-started after being introduced to minimalist and natural living whilst travelling and living within different communities around the world. Seeing the benefits of living with less clutter, making things by hand and producing less waste made her eager to learn more. She has since been experimenting with recipes to reduce the amount of toxins in her household, and particularly cherishes the reward of packaging-free cupboards.
